As Unto God

All human behavior lived out as unto God would make for a very different world for individuals, families, communities, cities, states, nations, and the world. If every thought we intentionally think, if every thought we intentionally share, or if every thought people intentionally acted out was as unto God, our world would be a radically different place, or would it?

Human Perception

People have a developed consciousness of self. People have a developed capacity for learning. We have the notion that we have the capacity to act out our thoughts as we believe appropriate, or right.

For the billions of us who are Christian across the Earth and others who have their own traditions of honoring God, how much of our behavior is genuinely entered into as unto God? How much time do we spend thinking about whether or not our behavior is fitting to meet the threshold o behavior, as unto God?

The Great Commandment

On the way to fully answering the question, note the language of the Hebrew Bible.  First, observe the language of the fifth of the first five books called Torah spoken by the Prophet Moses.

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart and with all thy soul and with all thy might. Deuteronomy 6 vss 4 – 5

Second, the same is reiterated in the Gospels. On this occasion, Jesus responds to the question which is the greatest commandment?

And Jesus answered the one who asked, the first of all the commandments is Hear, O Israel; the Lord our God is one Lord. And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment and the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is no other commandment greater than these. Mark 12 vss 29 – 31

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus brings a bit more clarity. Observe first the text. Second, observe contemporary application for all behavior As Unto God.

Jesus says, “This is the first and great commandment.” Matthew 22 vs 38

The Application

Contemporary application, we are directed, mandated, instructed, and ordered to love God with all that is in us. This is the first and great commandment.

I must love God with all of myself. Your must love God with all of yourself. We must love God with all of ourselves.

We demonstrate this when all our behavior is lived out and acted out as unto God. This is the first and great commandment.

If every thought we intentionally think, if every thought we intentionally share, or if every thought people intentionally acted out was as unto God, our world would be a radically different place, or would it? It certainly should be.

There will be a follow up too this post that begins with Ephesians 5 vs 1.

To close today’s post. Might this be your focus for your prayers that we learn how to love this way and that we might follow God’s leading to eliminate suffering in the human family, In Jesus’ Name, Amen
